Maharashtra Net Metering Guide
Key information on MSEDCL net metering policy and available government subsidies for solar installations.
What Is Net Metering?
Net metering allows solar system owners to export unused electricity back to the MSEDCL grid and receive bill credits for those units. At the end of each billing cycle, you pay only for your net consumption — the difference between units drawn from the grid and units exported to it.
MSEDCL Application Process
- 1Submit online application via MSEDCL SRMS portal with load details
- 2Technical feasibility check by MSEDCL field team (2–4 weeks)
- 3Receive approval letter and Agreement for Parallel Operation (APO)
- 4Treflik installs bidirectional meter after system commissioning
- 5Net metering billing begins from next meter reading cycle
Subsidy Rates (Indicative)
Subsidy rates are indicative and subject to government scheme updates. Contact us for current figures.
Key Eligibility Criteria
- System must be grid-tied (no standalone battery-only systems)
- Capacity limit: up to 90% of sanctioned load for most categories
- Premises must be in MSEDCL jurisdiction (most of Maharashtra)
- No outstanding dues on the electricity connection
- Technically feasible grid connection point required

Our primary operational area is Maharashtra, with project capabilities across Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Solapur, Kolhapur, and all major tier-2 cities. We also handle projects in adjacent states including Gujarat, Goa, and Madhya Pradesh for anchor clients. Contact our team to discuss projects outside Maharashtra.
Yes. We offer three commercial models: (1) CAPEX — you purchase and own the system outright; (2) OPEX / RESCO — Treflik finances, owns, and operates the system and you buy solar power at a fixed per-unit rate below the grid tariff; (3) Solar Leasing — you lease the system with a buyout option. Our finance team will model all three options for your situation.
Use our online Estimator tool to input your property details and monthly electricity bill. This generates an indicative proposal within minutes. For a detailed engineering proposal, submit a site assessment request and our team will visit within 5 business days, conduct a shadow analysis and roof survey, and deliver a full technical and financial proposal within 10 business days.
We design and execute systems in line with MNRE technical guidelines, BIS standards, and the relevant DISCOM (e.g. MSEDCL) net-metering and interconnection requirements. For up-to-date details of empanelments and certifications applicable to your specific project, please contact our team at sales@trefliksolar.com.
Treflik installations are fitted with cloud-based monitoring, accessible via a web dashboard. Clients receive real-time generation data, periodic performance reports and exportable data suitable for internal energy reporting and ESG disclosures. Specific reporting cadence and data-retention terms are documented in each O&M contract.
As a general guide, every 1 kW of solar capacity requires approximately 8–10 sq ft of shadow-free rooftop area. A 100 kW system therefore needs roughly 800–1,000 sq ft. Our engineers will conduct an on-site assessment to evaluate your specific roof geometry, orientation, and structural load capacity before recommending a system size.
Yes, with landlord consent. Many of our clients operate from leased premises and we assist in drafting a solar lease addendum for the landlord's approval. Under an OPEX (operating expense) model, Treflik owns and maintains the system — which can make approvals easier since the tenant has zero capital outlay.
Excess units can be exported to the grid under Maharashtra DISCOM's net-metering policy, which credits exported units against your import consumption. Alternatively, under open-access regulations, surplus can be sold to a third-party industrial buyer. Our team handles all DISCOM application paperwork on your behalf.
We supply and install DC and AC solar pump systems from 1 HP to 15 HP, suitable for drip irrigation, sprinklers, and surface water lifting. Systems can be configured as solar-only, solar-hybrid (with grid backup), or solar-with-storage for locations without grid connectivity. All systems are PM-KUSUM scheme eligible, enabling up to 60% government subsidy.
Solar street lights are fully self-contained — each pole has an integrated panel, battery, LED luminaire, and intelligent controller. They eliminate trenching and cabling costs, making them ideal for remote roads, housing society pathways, and campuses. Our smart solar street lights feature dusk-to-dawn sensing, motion-based dimming for energy savings, and remote monitoring via a cellular-connected gateway.
